Theme 3: Globalisation

infoWhy this? Globalisation is taught because it develops an understanding of how increasing international trade, investment, and economic integration shape the decisions of businesses, governments, and individuals. Students explore the growth of emerging economies, the role of trade liberalisation, trading blocs, exchange rates, and international institutions in influencing economic performance and global development. Globalisation also encourages students to evaluate the benefits and challenges of an interconnected world, including the impact on growth, employment, living standards, and international competitiveness.

scheduleWhy now? Globalisation is taught at the start of Theme 3 because students have already developed an understanding of markets, firms, economic performance, and macroeconomic policy in Themes 1 and 2. This unit broadens that understanding by examining how economic activity operates on a global scale and how international trade, investment, and exchange rates influence economies and businesses. Globalisation provides the international context needed for the study of poverty, labour markets, financial markets, and international economic policy in the remainder of the course.
