Theme 1: Enterprise, Business and the Economy

infoWhy this? Enterprise, Business and the Economy is taught because it develops an understanding of how entrepreneurs create value, organise resources, and contribute to economic growth. Students explore the role of enterprise, the factors of production, and the benefits and drawbacks of specialisation, helping them understand how businesses operate within the economy. Enterprise, Business and the Economy also introduces the impact of wider economic conditions, such as inflation, interest rates, taxation, and unemployment, on business decisions and economic activity.

scheduleWhy now? Enterprise, Business and the Economy is taught early in the course because it builds directly on the concepts of scarcity, choice, and opportunity cost introduced in the previous unit. Students move from understanding why economic decisions must be made to exploring how entrepreneurs, businesses, and workers respond to those economic challenges in practice. Enterprise, Business and the Economy provides important context for later study of markets, competition, economic performance, and government policy by showing how businesses operate within the wider economy.
