Theme 2: The Economic Cycle
infoWhy this? The Economic Cycle is taught because it develops an understanding of how economic activity changes over time and how these changes affect businesses, individuals, and governments. Students explore economic growth, inflation, unemployment, and the circular flow of income, enabling them to analyse the causes and consequences of economic fluctuations. The Economic Cycle also helps students understand the links between macroeconomic performance and business decision-making, showing how changes in the wider economy create both opportunities and challenges for firms and consumers.
scheduleWhy now? The Economic Cycle is taught after Globalisation, Developing Economies and International Trade because students have already explored how economies and businesses are connected at a global level. This unit builds on that understanding by examining how economic activity fluctuates over time and how changes in growth, inflation, and unemployment influence business behaviour and living standards. The Economic Cycle develops key macroeconomic concepts that provide the foundation for analysing government policy and overall economic performance in later parts of the course.
