An independent investigation connecting a literary text with non-literary material through a shared theme or linguistic technique develops intellectual curiosity and ownership of our learning. Selecting suitable material, undertaking secondary reading, and applying integrated analysis help us establish meaningful connections between texts and contexts. The process also strengthens research, referencing, and extended academic-writing skills.
scheduleWhy now? By the start of Year 13, our experience of varied literary, non-literary, and multimodal texts provides a foundation for informed text selection and independent enquiry. Placing the investigation early gives time for research, drafting, and refinement under supervision. It brings Year 12 methods together before attention shifts to the remaining set-text units.
