Momentum and Impulse and Work, energy and power

infoWhy this? Momentum and impulse connect forces acting over time with changes in motion, while conservation of momentum provides a powerful way to analyse interactions. Work, energy, and power offer complementary methods for relating forces, displacement, and energy transfer, allowing us to select an efficient approach to a mechanical problem.

scheduleWhy now? Introducing these ideas early establishes the principles needed for the following collision unit and later work on elastic strings and springs. The calculations draw on algebra and problem-solving skills being developed in A-Level Mathematics, allowing us to establish core mechanics methods before tackling more demanding spatial problems.
