Projectiles and The normal distribution

infoWhy this? Projectile motion combines kinematics with two-dimensional thinking to model paths under gravity. Regression and related inference let students model linear relationships and assess claims using data rather than intuition. The normal distribution is a powerful continuous model for natural variation, measurement error and standardised comparison.

scheduleWhy now? Projectiles follows earlier mechanics work so students can combine component methods with familiar equations of motion. Normal distribution is best left until the end of the statistics course because it draws together earlier work on distributions, probability and hypothesis testing.
