Quadratics link factorisation, roots, symmetry and turning points in one of the most important families of functions. Differentiation provides a rigorous way to find gradients, tangents and turning points and to model instantaneous change.
scheduleWhy now? This extends GCSE algebra and creates the fluency needed for calculus, graphs, trigonometry and mechanics. Revisiting them here strengthens a familiar model before students use it in graph work, circle problems and further solving. Differentiation comes early so students can use it throughout later work on curves, optimisation and variable acceleration.
