infoWhy this? Studying data collection helps students recognise sampling methods, bias and the limits of evidence in real datasets. Measures such as mean, median, quartiles and standard deviation let students compare typical values and variability clearly. Mechanics modelling shows how assumptions such as particles, light strings and smooth surfaces make real motion mathematically manageable.

scheduleWhy now? This starts statistics so later summaries, graphs and inferences are rooted in how the data was produced. Once students have considered how data is collected, they can summarise it more thoughtfully and discuss what those summaries do and do not show. Modelling in mechanics strand is needed first because students need those conventions before any specific motion or force problems.
