Clinical psychology and mental health

infoWhy this? This topic area explores definitions of mental health, OCD, depression and phobias. All components include characteristics, explanations and treatments. This topic is now in Paper 1, and is taught to allow pupils to apply knowledge to their own life and phobias they may have. Pupils become interested and application begins to increase.

scheduleWhy now? All sections of clinical psychology include a biological element alongside the topic of approaches. Therefore, both approaches and biopsychology needed to be taught prior to this for students to have foundation to build from.

  • The behavioural approach to explaining and treating phobias.
  • The cognitive approach to explaining and treating depression.
  • The biological approach to explaining and treating OCD.
