The Natural World
infoWhy this? It is important for students to read lyrical, reflective writing that connects literature to real environmental issues and their own experiences of nature. A balance of classic and contemporary nature writing enables comparison of changing attitudes towards the natural world and our place within it. Students can open up rich discussion around conservation, sustainability, mindfulness and the relationship between humans and their environment.
scheduleWhy now? This unit allows students to draw together the descriptive, analytical and structural skills developed across the year in a context that feels fresh and relevant. It prepares students for future viewpoint and persuasive writing about topical issues, as well as for more advanced literary non‑fiction at GCSE. Students consolidate ambitious vocabulary and figurative language and are reassessed on spelling, grammar and punctuation, ensuring they move into Year 9 with secure, fluent written expression.
