Preparing for Success: Mock Examinations and the Workplace

infoWhy this? This half term prepares students for two significant milestones: their mock examinations and work experience placement. The mock-examination preparation session supports students to develop effective revision strategies, manage their time and workload, and approach the examination period with confidence. Strong performance is particularly important because these results will inform the predicted grades used for university applications in the following academic year. The work-experience preparation session equips students with an understanding of professional expectations, including punctuality, appropriate communication, workplace conduct, initiative and personal responsibility. It also helps students consider how to manage unfamiliar situations and make the most of opportunities to develop their employability skills.

scheduleWhy now? This learning is timed to provide relevant, practical support immediately before each key event. Ahead of the mock examinations from 14–25 June, students need to finalise revision plans, balance competing subject demands and use strategies that support their wellbeing and performance under pressure. Understanding the link between mock results and predicted grades should encourage students to approach these assessments with appropriate preparation and commitment. The work-experience preparation session takes place shortly before work experience week, beginning 12 July, so that expectations and practical guidance remain fresh and can be applied immediately. At this stage, students should have confirmed their placements and therefore be ready to consider the specific demands of their workplace, address any concerns and set meaningful goals for the experience.
